Millbrae’s Cleaning Up!
The City of Millbrae has initiated a collaborative and environmentally responsible effort to clean up its downtown and other business areas. The goal of this new program is to create a cleaner and more vibrant City with the help of its numerous businesses, the Chamber of Commerce, the Peninsula Chinese Business Association (PCBA), and the South San Francisco Scavenger (SSF Scavenger) Company.
Recently, the City has seen an increase of litter and unhealthy practices, from trash and cigarette butts on sidewalks and streets to overflowing dumpsters behind businesses. Millbrae takes pride in its history and identity; our physical environment should reflect the community’s best interests, as well as show our commitment to protecting the surrounding ecosystem.
Last week, a letter was sent to the business community to enlist their help in keeping the outside areas of their facilities clean. The letter included relevant Municipal Code regulations that the City plans on proactively checking and issuing violations for, if requirements are not met. Further, SSF Scavenger will ensure that all businesses have adequate garbage service.
Many businesses within the City are already adhering to these best practices to reduce their environmental impacts. The City recognizes these businesses for doing their part to keep their outside areas clean, and appreciates the businesses that are now following their example.
Working together towards the goal of environmental stewardship, the City and its partners will protect and improve our public and community spaces. A cleaner Millbrae is good for business and the environment!
