This weekend, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office will begin ramping up parking enforcement efforts throughout the City of Millbrae, including citing for violations that in the past were not enforced. An example of this is parking a vehicle on the sidewalk.

On Friday, July 21, the City of Millbrae will be hosting a gathering to recognize the one-year commemoration of the Millbrae Community Center fire. The event will be held at Central Park and start at 7:30 a.m. with light refreshments and pastries.

In May, the City of Millbrae mailed letters to more than 9,000 households and business owners notifying them of a public hearing regarding proposed changes to water rates and replacement of the Sanitary System Overflow (SSO) charge with Clean Bay Charges. Taking place on Tuesday, July 11 at 7:00 pm, in the City Council Chambers, the public hearing will allow community members to share their thoughts and sentiment on the proposed rate changes, and give them an opportunity to hear more about why the additional funding is needed.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office provides many services to the homeless of San Mateo County, all while balancing the needs of public safety in the communities in which we serve. The Sheriff’s Office Millbrae Police Bureau recognizes that Millbrae attracts transient population from all over the Bay Area, due to its proximity to SFO International Airport and the safe environment which this community provides.

Fireworks are fun and exciting to watch, but when improperly handled, can seriously damage homes or injure spectators. This Independence Day, please remember that fireworks are illegal in Millbrae and throughout most of San Mateo County.

Created in 1976, the Friends of the Millbrae Library is a non-profit public benefit corporation whose mission is to encourage membership, volunteerism, and fundraising to support literacy throughout the community. Last Friday, a young man was assaulted in front of the Millbrae Library. While I can’t speak on the details of the case as it is still an ongoing investigation, I want to reassure you that Millbrae continues to be a safe community.

As contract law enforcement for the City of Millbrae, San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies and Community Service Officers (CSO) routinely enforce parking violations throughout the City. Citations may be issued whenever a violation is seen. At times, a specific street or neighborhood is randomly selected to ensure vehicles are parking legally and safely. In addition to these routine and random patrols, Deputies and CSOs respond to parking complaints on specific vehicles or at specific locations.

Open spaces, multi-use rooms and access were all major topics of discussion on Tuesday night at the interactive workshop for the future Millbrae Community Center. More than 30 Millbrae residents participated in the two-hour event, sharing their ideas on what amenities and services they thought should be included at the new Community Center.

While coyote sightings in San Mateo County are common, residents, especially those with children and pets, need to remember that they are wild animals, and will defend themselves if they feel threatened. To avoid confrontations with coyotes, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the City of Millbrae, reminds people to take precautions when around these wild animals.
